Meet Kendal

Fresh Leadership Delivering Innovative Results for Our Community

Kendal is a native of Burlington, North Carolina, the son of Ms. Lisa R. McBroom and the grandson of Mrs. Iola W. and the late Mr. Connie B. McBroom. He graduated from Hampton University completing his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a minor in Leadership Studies. A proud bulldog, Kendal is a graduate of Walter M. Williams High School and the Academy of Finance. With family roots in Green Level, Pleasant Grove, and Mebane, Kendal is a son of Alamance County.

Following his graduation from Hampton, Kendal worked as a Children's Support Services Coordinator for Transitions Family Violence Services, a non-profit agency serving the Hampton Roads area. In this role he sought to connect children who had experienced domestic violence and sexual assault with the effective services needed for their resilience and maturation. Throughout his undergraduate tenure Kendal served in leadership roles, from treasurer to class president. He interned with the Federal Deposit Insruance Corporation (FDIC) under the Division of Administration, gaining expertise on government contracts, acquisitions, and policy. During the summer of 2012 Kendal also had the opporunity to intern with the Congressional Black Caucus under the leadership of U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, III (Missouri). Nevertheless, some of his most meaningful career experiences have taken place right here in Alamance County. From shadowing the funeral service industry through the Academy of Finance at Walter M. Williams High School to interning with the Family Abuse Services of Alamance County, Kendal has had the chance to learn what true service is: advocating for equality and equity for all within society.

Kendal is an active member in the community of faith. From being raised in both St. Matthews African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church and First Baptist Church, he has served as a member and President of the Youth Choir, YPD President, Junior Usher, in the Western North Carolina Conference, as well as the worship leader for the Sunday service. He has served the choirs of St. Matthews A.M.E. Church, City of Refuge Ministries, Arches Grove United Church of Christ, Stoney Creek A.M.E. Church and Gant Town Baptist Church, as the pianist for all age groups.

Kendal attends Duke University Divinity School pursing a Master of Divinity. He is presently a licensed minister seeking itinerant ordination through the A.M.E. Church. Previously, he served as the Director of Student Ministries at First Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Dray A. Bland where he taught Christian Education for youth and young adults. Whether it is in his professional life, social life, or spiritual journey, Kendal strives to live out the words spoken by Jesus in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
